Dr. Kristine Callis-Duehl

Dr. Kristine Callis-Duehl is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California Irvine and the CEO and Head of Research and Development at Budding Biologist. Dr. Duehl has her PhD in biology from the University of Florida and continues to do research in ecology through the University of California-Irvine. She studies how plants defend themselves against insect herbivores. During her graduate career, she implemented inquiry science lessons for elementary and middle school students through the National Science Foundation’s GK12 program, which places scientists in disadvantaged classrooms several times a week in order to bring real science to students. She co-founded budding biologist after her first son was born and she discovered that most early children’s non-fiction science books contained misinformation. She used her inquiry based education training to create the Budding Biologist concept of helping children learn to think like scientists while learning scientifically accurate facts in a fun and entertaining way. As the Head of Research and Development, Dr. Duehl uses her contacts in the science world to form collaborations, which bring real science into all Budding Biologist projects. For more information about her research, click here.
